I checked with Neil about the Ain’t It Cool News article, and he said the article was pretty much wrong in all respects. Here’s the real deal:

“Sandman Movie: they fired the director and the scriptwriters, following Roger Avary (the then-director) showing them Jan Svankmajer’s ALICE, and explaining that the Dreaming stuff would look and feel like that.

I hear they are hiring a new writer and starting the whole process over again, but then, I keep hearing that.

Death: the treatment is sitting on a desk at Warner Brothers. I’ve been told that it’s on hold (as a ‘sandman spin-off’) until they’ve figured out what they’re doing with Sandman. Which is silly really, as it’s not something you’d need to know anything about Sandman to understand…”
